Diana Harshbarger

Diana Harshbarger is a Republican politician and pharmacist serving as the U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 1st congressional district. Born in Kingsport and raised in Bloomingdale, Tennessee, she was the first in her immediate family to graduate from both high school and college. She earned her undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University before obtaining a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the Mercer University College of Pharmacy in 1987. Prior to her election to Congress, Harshbarger spent over three decades as a licensed pharmacist and small business owner. She and her husband, Robert, owned and operated a compounding pharmacy in Kingsport. Harshbarger was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020, succeeding retiring Representative Phil Roe. During her tenure, she has served on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, including subcommittees on Health and Innovation, Data, and Commerce, as well as the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

Harshbarger's policy positions are rooted in fiscal conservatism and her background in healthcare. On healthcare, she advocates for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) in favor of a market-based system that emphasizes price transparency and personalized care; she also seeks to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign pharmaceutical imports, particularly from China. She is a proponent of strict border security measures, supporting the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall and the reinstatement of 'Remain in Mexico' policies. Harshbarger identifies as pro-life and supports legislation to restrict federal funding for abortion while protecting the conscience rights of healthcare providers. Additionally, she is a vocal supporter of the Second Amendment, opposes stricter gun control regulations, and advocates for federal term limits for members of Congress.
