Ronny Jackson

Ronny Jackson is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Texas's 13th congressional district. First elected in 2020, he assumed office on January 3, 2021. Born and raised in Levelland, Texas, Jackson attended South Plains College before earning a Bachelor of Science in marine biology from Texas A&M University in 1991. He subsequently received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1995. Following medical school, Jackson began a distinguished career in the United States Navy, specializing in undersea and emergency medicine. His military service included a deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom as an emergency physician. In 2006, he joined the White House Medical Unit and served as the Physician to the President under both Barack Obama and Donald Trump from 2013 to 2018. In 2019, he was appointed as the first Chief Medical Advisor to the President before retiring from the Navy as a rear admiral in December 2019. In Congress, Jackson serves on several key committees, including the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. His legislative focus frequently involves national security, veterans' affairs, and the interests of the agricultural sector within the Texas Panhandle. He is a member of the House Republican Conference and aligns with conservative legislative priorities.

On immigration, he is a strong advocate for border security, supporting the construction of a border wall and stricter enforcement of immigration laws to combat illegal crossings. Regarding healthcare, he supports the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and opposes extending federal healthcare benefits to undocumented immigrants. His economic positions include support for tax cuts, deregulation, and fiscal restraint; he has specifically advocated for reforms to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to limit the purchase of non-nutritional items. In foreign policy, Jackson generally supports a 'peace through strength' approach and has expressed skepticism toward certain international aid packages, such as aspects of military support for Ukraine, emphasizing the need for clear strategic goals.
