Beth Van Duyne

Beth Van Duyne is a Republican politician representing Texas's 24th congressional district, first elected in 2020. Before joining Congress, she served on the Irving City Council from 2004 to 2010 and as the first female mayor of Irving from 2011 to 2017. In 2017, she was appointed as the Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Southwest Region under the Trump administration, where she managed programs across several states including Texas and Oklahoma. Van Duyne graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in city and regional planning, government, and law. Her career prior to public office included work as a business consultant and strategist. In the House of Representatives, she serves on the Ways and Means and Small Business Committees, where she focuses on economic development, tax policy, and regulatory reform.

Van Duyne supports a conservative policy agenda that includes permanent tax cuts, fiscal restraint to reduce the federal deficit, and extensive deregulation to foster small business growth. Her stance on immigration involves prioritizing border security through infrastructure like a border wall and increased agent hiring, while supporting legal status—without citizenship—for specific undocumented populations such as those who arrived as children. In energy policy, she advocates for U.S. energy independence through a combination of traditional and clean sources, particularly next-generation nuclear reactors. She has voted against various Ukraine aid measures, opposes the Affordable Care Act, and was among the House members who objected to the 2020 presidential election certification.
