Blake Moore

Blake Moore is the U.S. Representative for Utah's 1st Congressional District, having been first elected in 2020 and assuming office on January 3, 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he currently serves as the Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, making him the first Utahn to be elected to a House leadership position. He was raised in Ogden, Utah, where he was a standout high school athlete and later attended Utah State University on a football scholarship before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seoul, South Korea. Moore’s professional career includes serving as a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. Department of State, where he focused on foreign policy and national security issues. Following his time in the Foreign Service, he worked as a principal at the Cicero Group, a management consulting firm, where he led projects in social impact, strategy, and market research. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah and a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University. In the House of Representatives, Moore is the first Utah Republican to serve on the House Committee on Ways and Means, with assignments on the Healthcare, Social Security, and Trade subcommittees. He also serves on the House Budget Committee and co-chairs the Armed Forces and Depot caucuses. His legislative efforts frequently focus on addressing the national debt, promoting economic growth, and supporting the defense community, particularly Hill Air Force Base.

Representative Moore's stated policy positions focus on fiscal responsibility, national security, and pragmatic governance. On the economy, he emphasizes reducing the national debt and has convened task forces to find solutions for federal spending, while supporting pro-growth tax policies such as expanding the universal charitable deduction. Regarding healthcare, he advocates for increased affordability and transparency, leveraging his background as a healthcare consultant. On immigration, Moore supports enhanced border security measures but has also endorsed pathways to legal status for certain undocumented populations, such as DACA recipients. His social policy record includes support for the Respect for Marriage Act and co-sponsorship of the Fairness for All Act, which seeks to protect both LGBTQ+ rights and religious liberties. In foreign policy, he draws on his Foreign Service experience to advocate for strong international alliances and oversight of military operations, including investigations into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
