Scott Fitzgerald

Scott Fitzgerald is a Republican politician representing Wisconsin's 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected in 2020, he took office in January 2021, succeeding longtime Representative Jim Sensenbrenner. Before his tenure in Congress, Fitzgerald served in the Wisconsin State Senate for 26 years (1995–2021), where he held significant leadership positions, including several terms as both Majority and Minority Leader. In the state legislature, he was a key figure in the passage of major reforms such as Act 10 and Wisconsin's voter ID law. Born in Chicago and raised in Hustisford, Wisconsin, Fitzgerald earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1985. His career before public office included working as a newspaper publisher for the Dodge County Independent News and an associate publisher for the Watertown Daily Times. Additionally, he served for 27 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring in 2009 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is currently a member of the House Committees on the Judiciary and Financial Services.
