Jake Ellzey

Jake Ellzey is a Republican U.S. Representative representing Texas's 6th Congressional District. Born in Amarillo and raised in Perryton, Texas, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Following his graduation, Ellzey embarked on a 20-year career in the United States Navy as a fighter pilot. He logged over 800 carrier landings and served nine deployments, including five combat tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq. During his service, he held roles as a Commanding Officer of a Strike Fighter Squadron and as the Air Boss on the USS Ronald Reagan. After retiring from the Navy, Ellzey worked as a commercial airline pilot and served as a commissioner for the Texas Veterans Commission from 2012 to 2018. He also served as a social aide in the White House during the George W. Bush administration. Before entering federal office, he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives for the 10th district, serving from January to July 2021. Ellzey was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election on July 27, 2021, to fill the vacancy left by the late Representative Ron Wright. Since joining Congress, Ellzey has been a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Small Business. He is a resident of Ellis County, where he lives with his wife and two children. His legislative focus often reflects his military background, particularly in areas concerning national security and veteran affairs.

He is a vocal proponent of border security, advocating for the completion of the border wall, increased funding for the U.S. Border Patrol, and the elimination of what he describes as asylum loopholes. On economic issues, he identifies as a pro-growth conservative who supports lower taxes, deregulation, and the reduction of federal spending to combat inflation. He has expressed strong opposition to large-scale government spending packages such as the Build Back Better Act. Ellzey is staunchly pro-life and a firm supporter of Second Amendment rights, being a lifetime member of the NRA. He is particularly active on veteran-related issues, seeking to improve healthcare and transition services for former service members. Additionally, he has taken a local stance against the construction of high-speed rail in Texas, citing concerns over private property rights and government overreach. In education, he advocates for strong public schools while opposing the inclusion of certain social curricula he deems experimental.
