Mike Flood

Mike Flood is a Republican representing Nebraska's 1st Congressional District. Born in Omaha and raised in Norfolk, Nebraska, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law. Prior to entering public office, he established a career as an attorney and broadcaster. In 1999, he founded Flood Communications, which has grown into one of the state's largest media networks, operating numerous radio and television stations across rural Nebraska. Flood's political career began in the Nebraska Legislature, where he served from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2021 to 2022. During his first tenure, his colleagues elected him as the youngest Speaker of the Legislature in the state's history, a position he held for six years. His state legislative work included a focus on economic development, infrastructure, and social policy. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election in June 2022 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jeff Fortenberry and was subsequently re-elected to a full term in November 2022. In Congress, he serves on the House Financial Services Committee. His federal legislative priorities include promoting fiscal discipline, supporting the agricultural sector, and advocating for rural community development.

Flood advocates for fiscal conservatism, supporting broad tax cuts, including the elimination of taxes on Social Security and overtime, while emphasizing the need for balanced federal budgets to curb inflation. He is a strong supporter of the agricultural industry, focusing on protecting American farmland from foreign acquisition, particularly by the Chinese Communist Party. On immigration, he emphasizes border security, supporting the completion of a border wall and increased funding for law enforcement agencies. Flood maintains a pro-life position, having sponsored several restrictive abortion measures in the state legislature, and is a firm supporter of Second Amendment rights. In healthcare, he favors market-based reforms and increased competition to lower insurance costs. Additionally, he promotes energy independence through a combination of traditional energy sources and conservation efforts.
