Patrick Ryan

Patrick Ryan is a Democratic U.S. Representative representing New York's 18th Congressional District. He was first elected to Congress in August 2022 during a special election for the 19th District before being elected to represent the 18th District in the 2022 general election following redistricting. A fifth-generation native of the Hudson Valley, Ryan graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a degree in international politics and later earned a Master of Arts in security studies from Georgetown University. Before his congressional tenure, Ryan served as an Army intelligence officer from 2004 to 2009, completing two combat tours in Iraq and receiving two Bronze Stars. Following his military service, he transitioned to the private sector as a technology entrepreneur, co-founding Praescient Analytics and serving as a senior executive at Dataminr. In 2019, he was elected as the Ulster County Executive, where he focused on the COVID-19 pandemic response, spearheaded the redevelopment of former industrial sites, and implemented a universal basic income pilot program. In the House of Representatives, Ryan serves on the Armed Services Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. His legislative work has emphasized veterans' affairs, expanding mental health services, and securing federal funding for regional infrastructure projects. He resides in Gardiner, New York, with his wife and two sons.
