Juan Ciscomani

Juan Ciscomani is a Republican politician representing Arizona's 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Born in Hermosillo, Mexico, he immigrated to Tucson, Arizona, as a child and was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning an associate degree from Pima Community College and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Arizona. His early career included leadership roles at the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the University of Arizona. Ciscomani later served as a senior advisor to Governor Doug Ducey and as vice chair of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, where he focused on international trade and border security. First elected to Congress in 2022 and re-elected in 2024, he is the first naturalized American citizen from Mexico to represent Arizona in the U.S. House. In 2023, he was selected to deliver the Republican response to the State of the Union address in Spanish. He has been recognized as the most bipartisan member of the Arizona delegation by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy. Ciscomani serves on the House Committee on Appropriations and has been active in legislative efforts related to trade and regional cooperation.

Ciscomani advocates for a multi-faceted approach to immigration that prioritizes border security and trade while streamlining the legal immigration process. He supports completing the border wall and ending 'catch-and-release' policies, but has also expressed support for legal protections and a path to permanency for 'Dreamers.' On economic policy, he favors lower taxes and reduced federal regulation, specifically supporting the reauthorization of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Regarding healthcare, Ciscomani has opposed cuts to Medicaid that would shift costs to states, asserting that he will not support legislation that reduces benefits for vulnerable populations. On the issue of abortion, he praised the overturning of Roe v. Wade and supports Arizona's 15-week limit, though he has stated opposition to a nationwide ban. In foreign policy, he is a supporter of Israel and focuses on strengthening economic and cultural ties with Mexico through trade and diplomacy.
