Jared Moskowitz

Jared Moskowitz is a Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 23rd Congressional District, a position he has held since January 2023. Born and raised in Coral Springs, Florida, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from George Washington University and a Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University. His early political engagement included interning for Vice President Al Gore and working on Joe Lieberman’s 2004 presidential campaign. Moskowitz's elective career began on the Parkland City Commission, where he served from 2006 to 2012. He was then elected to the Florida House of Representatives, serving from 2012 to 2019. In the state legislature, he gained prominence for his role in drafting and passing the bipartisan Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act following the 2018 Parkland shooting. In 2019, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis appointed him as the Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, where he oversaw the state's response to Hurricane Michael and the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, Moskowitz was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to succeed Ted Deutch. He currently serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Committee on the Judiciary. In Congress, he has emphasized bipartisan collaboration, particularly on issues related to disaster preparedness and emergency response. He is a co-founder of the Congressional Sneaker Caucus and has introduced legislation to elevate FEMA to a Cabinet-level department.

Moskowitz’s policy platform is centered on gun violence prevention, emergency management reform, and support for Israel. He advocates for gun safety measures such as universal background checks and red flag laws, drawing from his legislative work after the Parkland shooting. Regarding emergency management, he supports restructuring FEMA to increase its responsiveness to natural disasters and has proposed elevating the agency to a Cabinet-level position. In foreign policy, he is a vocal supporter of Israel and has led bipartisan efforts to combat antisemitism and secure Jewish institutions. His economic positions include advocating for student loan interest rate caps and addressing government waste; notably, he was the first Democrat to join the Congressional DOGE Caucus. He also supports protecting the Affordable Care Act and investing in resilient infrastructure to mitigate the effects of climate change.
