Glenn Ivey

Glenn Frederick Ivey is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Maryland's 4th congressional district since January 2023. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and raised in North Carolina and Virginia, he graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1983 and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1986. His early career included work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and as a senior aide to prominent federal legislators, including Representative John Conyers and Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle. Ivey also served as counsel to the Senate Banking Committee and during the Whitewater investigations. At the local level, Ivey served two terms as the State’s Attorney for Prince George's County from 2003 to 2011, where he focused on community-based prosecution and youth empowerment. He also chaired the Maryland Public Service Commission and worked as a partner in private law firms while teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and Harvard Law School. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the Ethics and Appropriations Committees and has been involved in high-profile legislative tasks, such as the task force investigating security failures related to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

Representative Ivey supports progressive economic and social policies aimed at reducing inequality and protecting workers' rights. He advocates for raising the federal minimum wage to $17 per hour, expanding the Child Tax Credit, and strengthening the labor movement as Vice-Chair of the Labor Caucus. In healthcare, he supports universal access, the expansion of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the protection of Medicaid against budget cuts. His criminal justice platform focuses on police reform, including sponsorship of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and gun violence prevention through measures like the Raise the Age Act. Additionally, Ivey supports comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and humane border policies.
