Mike Ezell

Mike Ezell is a Republican politician representing Mississippi's 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected in 2022, he assumed office in January 2023 after defeating the incumbent in a primary runoff. Ezell's career is defined by more than 40 years in law enforcement, most notably serving as the Sheriff of Jackson County from 2014 to 2022. His extensive police background includes roles as the Chief of Police in Ocean Springs and the Chief of Detectives for the Pascagoula Police Department. A native of Pascagoula, Ezell graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1977 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi while attending night school. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy and the FBI National Academy. In Congress, he serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, as well as the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Natural Resources.

Ezell maintains a consistently conservative platform focused on fiscal responsibility, national security, and social conservatism. On economic policy, he advocates for reducing federal spending, making the Trump-era tax cuts permanent, and repealing the estate tax. He is a strong supporter of domestic energy independence, specifically promoting oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico. Regarding immigration, Ezell prioritizes border security, including the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall and stricter enforcement of immigration laws. A staunch advocate for law enforcement, he opposes efforts to defund the police and supports increased protections for first responders. On social issues, he holds a pro-life stance, supporting legislation to restrict abortion and defund Planned Parenthood, and is a firm defender of Second Amendment gun rights. He also supports congressional term limits and the Jones Act to protect the domestic shipbuilding industry.
