Michael Lawler

Michael Lawler is a Republican politician representing New York's 17th Congressional District, covering parts of the Hudson Valley including Rockland, Putnam, Westchester, and Dutchess Counties. Born and raised in Rockland County, Lawler graduated as valedictorian from Manhattan College with a degree in accounting and finance. His early career included serving as the executive director of the New York State Republican Party and working as a senior advisor to the Westchester County Executive. Before his election to Congress, he served as the Deputy Town Supervisor of Orangetown and represented the 97th District in the New York State Assembly from 2021 to 2022. Lawler was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022, defeating the incumbent chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In Congress, he serves on the House Financial Services Committee and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where he chairs the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa. Recognized for a bipartisan approach, Lawler has been ranked as one of the most effective and bipartisan members of the House. He has focused much of his legislative work on regional issues such as tax relief for suburban families and securing federal funding for local infrastructure and law enforcement.
