Josh Brecheen

Josh Brecheen is a Republican politician representing Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected in 2022 and assuming office in January 2023, he is a fourth-generation rancher and a citizen of the Choctaw Nation. Before his election to Congress, Brecheen served as an Oklahoma State Senator from 2010 to 2018, where he honored a self-imposed two-term limit. His professional background also includes owning and operating Rawhide Dirtworks L.L.C., a small excavation and trucking business. Brecheen’s career in public service began as a field representative for the late U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, a role he held from 2004 to 2010. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a dual degree in animal science and agricultural communications. During his youth, he was heavily involved in the Oklahoma FFA Association, serving as State President from 1998 to 1999. In Congress, he is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and the Republican Study Committee, focusing on fiscal discipline and reducing the national debt.

Brecheen is a staunch fiscal conservative who advocates for balancing the federal budget and significantly reducing government spending to combat inflation. He strongly supports term limits for members of Congress, citing his own adherence to them in the state legislature as a model for federal reform. On immigration, he emphasizes national security, advocating for the completion of the southern border wall and stricter enforcement of immigration laws. He opposes federal involvement in education, viewing it as a parental and state responsibility, and has historically supported legislation allowing for the discussion of creationism alongside evolution in schools. Brecheen holds a pro-life position, stating that life begins at conception. In foreign policy, he has shown a preference for reducing overseas military commitments, such as voting to withdraw troops from Syria, while maintaining strong support for Israel.
