Chris Deluzio

Chris Deluzio is a Democratic U.S. Representative representing Pennsylvania's 17th Congressional District, which includes Beaver County and parts of Allegheny County. He was first elected to Congress in 2022 and assumed office on January 3, 2023. A native of Thornburg, Pennsylvania, Deluzio graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2006 and served as an active-duty surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy. His military career included three deployments, notably serving as a Civil Affairs Officer in Iraq. After his service, he earned his law degree magna cum laude from Georgetown Law and clerked for a federal judge in the Southern District of New York. Before entering politics, Deluzio specialized in voting rights and election security as an attorney. He worked at the Brennan Center for Justice and later served as the policy director at the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security (Pitt Cyber). He has also been active in labor advocacy, serving as a union organizer for the Pitt Faculty Organizing Committee with the United Steelworkers. In Congress, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Deluzio's policy platform focuses on economic relief, labor rights, and voting security. He introduced the Cost-of-Living Emergency Act to address rising prices for groceries, housing, and utilities, and has advocated for legislation to prevent corporate 'shrinkflation.' He is a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act, frequently calling for the extension of premium tax credits, and is a member of the Medicare for All Caucus. Following the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, he became a prominent advocate for rail safety, co-introducing the bipartisan Railway Safety Act and the DERAIL Act to increase federal oversight of hazardous materials transportation. On social and environmental issues, Deluzio is pro-choice and supports federal protection of reproductive rights. He is a member of the Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition and supports clean energy initiatives while opposing legislation that prioritizes fossil fuel development. Regarding immigration, he has advocated for reforming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to increase accountability and protect civil liberties rather than abolishing the agency. In foreign policy, he has supported security assistance for Ukraine and has been active in seeking the release of wrongfully detained Americans, such as Marc Fogel.
