Mónica De La Cruz

Mónica De La Cruz is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Texas's 15th congressional district. Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, she is the granddaughter of a Mexican farmworker who worked in the agricultural fields of South Texas. She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she earned a degree in business administration, and later studied Spanish at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her professional career prior to politics included working for Cartoon Network Latin America and owning an insurance agency in the Rio Grande Valley for over 20 years. De La Cruz was first elected to Congress in 2022, marking the first time a Republican has represented the 15th district since its establishment in 1903. She assumed office on January 3, 2023, and successfully won re-election in 2024. In the House of Representatives, she serves on the Financial Services and Agriculture committees. Her work in Congress has been characterized by efforts to address border security, support the regional agricultural economy, and improve services for seniors and veterans in South Texas.

De La Cruz advocates for a policy platform centered on border security, economic fiscal restraint, and energy independence. She supports the completion of physical barriers along the southern border, the implementation of E-Verify, and the reinstatement of the "Remain in Mexico" policy, while also exploring legal work visa programs for the construction sector. Economically, she favors lowering taxes on families, reducing federal regulations on small businesses, and passing a Balanced Budget Amendment to curb inflation. Her energy positions include supporting oil and natural gas production to achieve energy independence and opposing the Green New Deal. In foreign policy, she supports strong ties with Israel and efforts to hold China accountable for economic competition. Furthermore, she has publicly supported protecting Social Security and Medicare from benefit cuts and has co-sponsored legislation to restrict biological men from participating in women's sports.
