Vince Fong

Vince Fong is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing California's 20th Congressional District. Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, Fong earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2001 and a Master in Public Affairs (MPA) from Princeton University in 2003. He began his professional career as a congressional aide to Representative Bill Thomas, then-chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, where he focused on international trade policy. Following this, he served for nearly a decade as the district director for Representative Kevin McCarthy. Fong's legislative career began in the California State Assembly, where he served from 2016 to 2024, representing the 34th and later the 32nd districts. During his tenure in the Assembly, he was known for his work on public safety and economic development. In May 2024, Fong won a special election to succeed Kevin McCarthy in Congress and was subsequently elected to a full term in November 2024. He is the first Asian American to represent Bakersfield in both the state legislature and the U.S. Congress.

Fong's policy platform centers on domestic energy production, border security, and economic growth. He is a proponent of 'energy independence,' advocating for the increased production of oil and natural gas in the Central Valley to lower costs and enhance national security. On immigration, he identifies border security as his top priority, calling for an end to illegal crossings and the enforcement of existing laws while opposing amnesty. He supports modernizing water infrastructure to benefit the Central Valley's agricultural industry and has advocated for reducing regulatory burdens on businesses to foster job growth. A self-described 'pro-life legislator,' he supports policies that limit abortion access. Additionally, he is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment and has focused on legislative efforts to enhance public safety and lower taxes.
