Dave McCormick

David Harold McCormick is a Republican U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, first elected to the Senate in the 2024 general election. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, and raised in Bloomsburg, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987. Following his graduation, McCormick served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and is a combat veteran of the Gulf War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He later earned a Ph.D. in international relations from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs. McCormick’s professional history includes leadership in both the private and public sectors. He served as the CEO of the technology company FreeMarkets and later as the CEO of Bridgewater Associates, one of the world's largest hedge funds, from 2020 to 2022. In the public sector, he held several senior positions in the George W. Bush administration, including Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security, Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs, and Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, where he played a role in the global response to the 2008 financial crisis. Since assuming office in January 2025, McCormick has focused on legislative priorities related to energy production, national security, and economic growth. He serves on various Senate committees, including the Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. His election to the Senate followed a career as a business executive and a previous run for the Senate in 2022.

His foreign policy stance is based on the principle of 'peace through strength,' which includes maintaining a robust defense budget and a firm approach to competition with the Chinese Communist Party. On healthcare, he supports market-driven reforms to increase transparency and competition, and during his 2024 campaign, he stated his opposition to a national abortion ban.
