Abraham Hamadeh

Abraham Hamadeh is a Republican politician representing Arizona's 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Born in Chicago and raised in Phoenix, he is the son of Syrian immigrants and is recognized as the first Arab American elected to Congress from Arizona. Hamadeh earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Arizona State University in 2013 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona College of Law in 2016. During law school, he was awarded the Udall Fellowship by the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys' Advisory Council. Hamadeh's career includes service as a prosecutor at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, where he handled criminal trials and victims' rights cases. He is also a Captain and Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, having served a 14-month deployment to Saudi Arabia where he worked on vetting terrorist threats. Before his election to Congress, Hamadeh was the Republican nominee for Arizona Attorney General in 2022, a race he lost by a narrow margin. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2024 and assumed office on January 3, 2025. During his time in the House, Hamadeh has served on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. His work in the legislature has focused on national security, military readiness, and veterans' health and economic opportunity. His background as both a military officer and a former prosecutor has shaped his legislative focus on the rule of law and national defense.

Hamadeh’s policy platform emphasizes border security, which he identifies as his top priority; he advocates for completing the U.S.-Mexico border wall, ending 'catch and release' policies, and designating drug cartels as terrorist organizations. On economic issues, he favors fiscal restraint, blaming high inflation on government spending and advocating for a balanced federal budget. He supports increasing domestic energy production to ensure energy independence and lower costs for consumers. Regarding election integrity, Hamadeh has expressed skepticism about the 2020 and 2022 election processes, calling for the banning of ranked-choice voting and more frequent purging of voter rolls. On social issues, he identifies as 'pro-life' and supports state-level jurisdiction over abortion legality while opposing late-term procedures. His foreign policy adheres to a 'peace through strength' doctrine, involving strong support for Israel and a critical view of the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.
