Jeff Hurd

Jeff Hurd is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing Colorado's 3rd Congressional District. First elected in November 2024, he assumed office on January 3, 2025, filling the seat vacated by Lauren Boebert. Hurd was raised in Grand Junction, Colorado, and holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame. He furthered his education by earning a Juris Doctor with high honors from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and a Master of Laws from Columbia Law School. Before entering politics, Hurd built a professional career in law and community service. He served as a judicial clerk for Chief Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and worked at the international law firm Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City. Upon returning to Western Colorado, he became a shareholder at Ireland Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe, where his practice focused on representing rural electric cooperatives, school districts, and fire districts. Hurd also served as Chairman of the Board for the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce and has been a vocal advocate for rural infrastructure and economic development.

Hurd’s policy platform centers on border security, energy independence, and rural economic development. He identifies securing the southern border as a top priority, advocating for increased funding for law enforcement and the strict enforcement of immigration laws while supporting legal immigration pathways. In the energy sector, he supports an "all-of-the-above" strategy that encourages the development of both traditional fossil fuels and renewable resources to bolster national security and lower consumer costs. Regarding the economy, Hurd emphasizes fiscal responsibility, reducing federal regulations on small businesses, and creating high-paying jobs in rural sectors. Additionally, he is a steadfast proponent of protecting Western water rights and supporting the agricultural community through responsible land management and infrastructure improvements.
