Mike Haridopolos

Michael "Mike" Haridopolos is a Republican politician representing Florida's 8th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, having been first elected in 2024 to succeed retiring Representative Bill Posey. Born in Huntington, New York, Haridopolos moved to Florida in 1989 and earned a B.A. from Stetson University, followed by an M.A. and PhD in history from the University of Arkansas. He began his professional career in academia, teaching U.S. history and political science at Eastern Florida State College and the University of Florida. Haridopolos has an extensive background in Florida state government, serving in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2003 and the Florida Senate from 2003 to 2012. He rose through the leadership ranks to serve as Senate President from 2010 to 2012, where he focused on government transparency and tax reform. After leaving the state legislature due to term limits, he operated a business and political consulting firm before returning to public office at the federal level in 2025.

Haridopolos maintains a conservative policy platform focused on economic growth, border security, and regional industry support. He advocates for the extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the elimination of taxes on tips and Social Security, and a 15% corporate tax rate for companies that create jobs within the United States. To combat inflation, he supports an "all-of-the-above" energy approach aimed at restoring American energy independence. Haridopolos identifies border security as a top priority, frequently calling for increased enforcement to stop illegal immigration and the flow of illicit drugs. In terms of regional priorities, he is a staunch advocate for the "Space Coast" industry, supporting increased NASA funding and American technological leadership in space. He also emphasizes environmental protection for the Indian River Lagoon, championing appropriations for its restoration and supporting the National Estuary Program. On healthcare, he opposes single-payer systems in favor of market-based competition and patient-centered care.
