Mark Messmer

Mark Messmer is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Indiana's 8th Congressional District since January 2025. A lifelong resident of Southern Indiana, Messmer earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1985. Before his election to Congress, he spent over 30 years as a co-owner of his family's business, Messmer Mechanical, Inc., specializing in commercial and industrial plumbing and HVAC services. His early professional career included engineering roles at Dow Chemical and John Brown Engineering. Messmer's political career began in the Indiana House of Representatives, where he served from 2008 to 2014. He then transitioned to the Indiana Senate, representing District 48 from 2014 until 2024, eventually rising to the position of Senate Majority Leader. During his time in the state legislature, he focused on economic development, defense industry investment, and local infrastructure projects like the I-69 extension. He was first elected to the U.S. House in November 2024 to succeed retiring Representative Larry Bucshon. In the 119th Congress, Messmer serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Agriculture Committee, and the Committee on Education and the Workforce. He is also a co-chair of the Congressional Hypersonics Caucus. Throughout his tenure in public service, Messmer has emphasized his background as a small business owner and engineer to advocate for policies aimed at reducing government overreach and fostering regional economic growth.

Mark Messmer's policy platform is centered on conservative principles, emphasizing national security, economic independence, and traditional values. He is a strong advocate for border security, supporting stricter deportation standards and the completion of a border wall. In foreign policy, he maintains a staunchly pro-Israel stance, viewing the nation as a critical U.S. ally and opposing boycott and divestment movements against it. On the economic front, Messmer champions small businesses and argues for reduced government involvement in the private sector to promote job creation. He supports domestic energy production, including the mining industry, and has advocated for the permanence of business tax deductions. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, he focuses on providing stability for farmers through the Farm Bill and protecting American cropland from foreign ownership. Messmer is also firmly pro-life, having publicly condemned the use of chemical abortion drugs and supported legislation to protect the rights of the unborn.
