April McClain Delaney

April McClain Delaney is a Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 6th Congressional District, having been first elected in 2024 and assuming office on January 3, 2025. Born in Buhl, Idaho, she earned a Bachelor of Science in communications from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. Her early career included practicing as a communications attorney for firms such as Cohn & Marks and serving as Assistant General Counsel for Orion Network Systems. Before entering Congress, Delaney spent approximately 15 years as the Washington Director for Common Sense Media, a nonprofit focused on children's digital safety and the impact of media on youth well-being. In 2022, she joined the Biden-Harris administration as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), where she worked on expanding rural broadband and digital equity. She succeeded David Trone in representing Maryland's 6th District and is the wife of former Congressman John Delaney.

Delaney advocates for universal healthcare access, supporting the protection of the Affordable Care Act, mental health parity, and allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. Her economic agenda focuses on strengthening the middle class, raising the minimum wage, and promoting domestic investment in technology and infrastructure. Drawing from her background in child advocacy, she strongly supports holding 'Big Tech' companies accountable for children's online safety and data privacy.
