Addison McDowell

Addison Parker McDowell is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing North Carolina's 6th Congressional District. Born in Whiteville and raised in Lexington, North Carolina, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government. His early career involved serving as a constituent liaison for U.S. Senator Ted Budd during Budd's time in the House and working as a staffer for Representative Richard Hudson. Prior to his election to Congress, McDowell worked as a lobbyist and government affairs manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the North Carolina League of Municipalities. McDowell was first elected to Congress in 2024, winning the Republican primary after receiving an early endorsement from former President Donald Trump. He secured the seat without Democratic opposition in the general election after North Carolina's congressional districts were redrawn to favor the Republican Party. Since taking office in January 2025, he has been appointed to the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Budget. His legislative focus has included disaster recovery efforts for North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene and supporting the "America First" legislative agenda.

McDowell's policy platform is heavily centered on border security and combating the fentanyl crisis, a priority motivated by the overdose death of his younger brother. He advocates for completing the wall on the U.S. southern border and increasing enforcement to stop illegal drug pipelines. On economic issues, he supports fiscal conservatism, advocating for reduced government spending, tax relief for working families, and domestic energy production to ensure energy independence. He is a supporter of the Second Amendment, describing gun ownership as a constitutional right, and maintains a pro-life stance on abortion, pledging to champion related legislation.
