Julie Fedorchak

Julie Fedorchak is a Republican politician serving as the U.S. Representative for North Dakota's at-large congressional district. Born in Williston and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of North Dakota in 1991. Her early career included roles as a communications specialist and columnist, as well as serving as the communications director for Governor Ed Schafer from 1995 to 2000. She later served as the state director for U.S. Senator John Hoeven before transitioning into regulatory roles. In 2012, Fedorchak was appointed to the North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC) by Governor Jack Dalrymple. During her 12-year tenure on the commission, she oversaw the permitting of more than $15 billion in energy infrastructure projects and focused on maintaining low utility rates and grid reliability. She attained national prominence in utility regulation, serving as the president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and as the president of the Organization of MISO States (OMS). Fedorchak was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024, succeeding Kelly Armstrong. Upon taking office on January 3, 2025, she became the first woman from North Dakota to serve in the U.S. House. In Congress, she serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is affiliated with the Republican Governance Group, where she focuses on legislative priorities related to energy production and rural economic development.

Fedorchak maintains a conservative platform with a heavy emphasis on energy and agriculture. She is a strong supporter of North Dakota's fossil fuel industries, advocating for the expansion of domestic oil, gas, and coal production while seeking to streamline federal permitting processes and overturn environmental regulations she characterizes as federal overreach. On economic issues, she supports fiscal responsibility, reducing the federal debt, and making the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. Fedorchak also prioritizes national security and border enforcement, supporting the completion of a border wall and policies to reduce American reliance on foreign nations for critical minerals. In terms of social policy, she identifies as pro-life and is a proponent of Second Amendment rights. Additionally, she advocates for policies that support farmers and ranchers, such as expanding markets for domestic biofuels and protecting agricultural interests in trade and regulation.
