Mike Kennedy

Mike Kennedy is a Republican politician, physician, and attorney who has served as the U.S. Representative for Utah's 3rd congressional district since January 2025. Born in Lansing, Michigan, Kennedy earned a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University (BYU) before receiving his medical degree from Michigan State University in 1998. He later returned to BYU to earn a Juris Doctor in 2007. Kennedy has maintained a long career as a family practice physician in Utah and is also a member of the Utah State Bar. Before his election to Congress, Kennedy served in the Utah House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and in the Utah Senate from 2021 to 2025. In 2018, he was a candidate for the U.S. Senate, where he won the most votes at the Utah State Republican Convention but was ultimately defeated in the primary by Mitt Romney. In Congress, he is a member of the GOP Doctors’ Caucus and focuses on issues relating to healthcare, fiscal responsibility, and local control. He lives in Alpine, Utah, with his wife and their eight children.

Kennedy’s platform centers on limited government and fiscal conservatism. In healthcare, he advocates for price transparency, the expansion of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), and increased competition to lower costs, while opposing the Affordable Care Act. On the economy, he supports reducing federal spending to combat inflation, cutting taxes (including the elimination of taxes on tips), and strengthening the Child Tax Credit. Regarding immigration, Kennedy favors completing the southern border wall and increasing surveillance technology and personnel to secure the border. He is a proponent of American energy independence, supporting increased domestic fossil fuel production and streamlined permitting for energy projects. Additionally, he maintains a pro-life stance, having supported restrictive abortion legislation during his time in the Utah legislature, and is a defender of the Second Amendment.
