John McGuire

John McGuire is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. Born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1968, he spent several years of his early childhood in the foster care system before being raised by his grandparents. After graduating from Henrico High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for ten years as a Navy SEAL, where he became a sniper and sniper instructor. Following his military service, he returned to Virginia and founded SEAL Team Physical Training, Inc., a fitness and leadership development company. McGuire’s political career began in 2017 when he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 56th District from 2018 to 2024. He later served a brief term in the Virginia State Senate before being elected to the U.S. Congress in November 2024. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. His legislative focus includes veterans' affairs, border security, and reducing federal spending.

McGuire advocates for a conservative fiscal agenda, supporting tax cuts and efforts to reduce the size and scope of the federal government. On immigration, he supports increased border security, including the completion of the southern border wall, and has introduced legislation to increase taxes on migrant income transfers. His healthcare positions are rooted in pro-life advocacy; he has voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and consistently opposed legislation that expands abortion access. Additionally, he supports achieving American energy dominance through increased domestic production and has worked on bipartisan legislation to address cybersecurity threats from quantum computing.
