Emily Randall

Emily Randall is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Washington's 6th Congressional District. She assumed office on January 3, 2025, following her victory in the 2024 general election to succeed retiring Representative Derek Kilmer. Raised in a union household in Port Orchard, Washington, Randall was the first in her family to graduate from a four-year college, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College. Her background in a working-class family and her experience as a caregiver for her sister, who lived with complex disabilities, shaped her early career as a healthcare advocate and fundraiser for non-profit organizations, including Planned Parenthood. Prior to her election to Congress, Randall served in the Washington State Senate from 2019 to 2024, representing the 26th Legislative District. During her tenure in the state legislature, she rose to the position of Deputy Majority Leader and chaired the Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee. Her legislative work focused on expanding healthcare access, protecting reproductive rights, and increasing funding for higher education and vocational training. In the 2024 election, she made history as the first woman and first person of color to represent Washington’s 6th District, as well as the first queer Latina to serve in the United States Congress. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Randall serves on the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. She has used her platform to advocate for infrastructure investments in the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas, including funding for wastewater treatment and ferry systems. Her early congressional tenure has been marked by a focus on reproductive healthcare access for federal employees, housing affordability, and veterans' services.

Healthcare: Randall is a staunch advocate for affordable and accessible healthcare, supporting the expansion of Medicaid and the protection of the Affordable Care Act. She strongly supports reproductive freedom and has campaigned on codifying abortion rights at the federal level. Education: She prioritizes reducing the cost of higher education and expanding access to apprenticeships and job training programs to prepare students for family-wage careers. Gun Safety: Randall supports common-sense gun reform, including universal background checks, red flag laws, and bans on the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Environment: She supports a transition to a green economy and has backed legislation aimed at protecting natural resources and addressing climate change through clean energy investments. Housing: Randall advocates for increasing the housing supply and has supported bipartisan measures to limit large corporate investors from purchasing single-family homes to ensure more opportunities for individual homeownership.
