Ashley Moody

Ashley Brooke Moody is a Republican United States Senator from Florida, having been appointed to the seat in January 2025 by Governor Ron DeSantis to fill the vacancy created by Marco Rubio's appointment as Secretary of State. A fifth-generation Floridian born in Plant City, Moody earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting and her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, later obtaining a Master of Laws in International Law from Stetson University. She began her legal career in commercial litigation at the firm Holland & Knight and subsequently served as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida, where she specialized in cases involving drug trafficking, firearms, and fraud. In 2006, Moody was elected as a judge for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, making her the youngest judge in the state at that time. After over a decade on the bench, she resigned in 2017 to run for Florida Attorney General. She was elected as the state's 38th Attorney General in 2018 and secured re-election in 2022. During her tenure as Attorney General, she chaired the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking and the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse, emphasizing law enforcement support through her "Back the Blue" initiative. She was sworn into the 119th Congress on January 21, 2025.

Moody’s policy positions are characterized by a focus on law enforcement, public safety, and conservative fiscal and social values. She is a strong advocate for border security and has utilized her previous role as Attorney General to challenge federal immigration policies in court. On healthcare, Moody has supported legal efforts to invalidate the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and, as a Senator, voted against the extension of ACA health care premium subsidies. She maintains a pro-life stance, supports the protection of religious freedoms, and has publicly opposed the legalization of recreational marijuana. In foreign policy, she has expressed support for hardline measures against the regimes in Cuba and Venezuela. Additionally, she has been a vocal proponent of election integrity, including joining legal challenges related to the 2020 presidential election results.
