Analilia Mejia

Analilia Mejia is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 11th congressional district, having assumed office on April 20, 2026, following a special election victory. A member of the Democratic Party, Mejia is an Afro-Latina politician and activist with a career rooted in labor organizing and community advocacy. She was elected to the seat vacated by Mikie Sherrill, who resigned after being elected Governor of New Jersey. Prior to her election, Mejia served as the Co-Executive Director of the Center for Popular Democracy and was a prominent figure in progressive political strategy. Born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to parents from Colombia and the Dominican Republic, Mejia attended Rutgers University–New Brunswick, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature, followed by a Master of Public Policy and a Master’s in Labor Relations and Education. Her professional career began as a union organizer with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and SEIU Local 32BJ. She later served as the Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance and was the National Political Director for Senator Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign. Mejia also served in the Biden administration as the Deputy Director of the Women's Bureau in the United States Department of Labor. In Congress, she is a member of the Homeland Security and Small Business Committees. Her legislative work has emphasized labor rights and democratic reform. She resides in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, with her husband, Robert Rogers Jr., and their two children.

Analilia Mejia's policy platform is centered on progressive economic and social reforms with a strong emphasis on labor advocacy. She has introduced legislation to increase the federal minimum wage to $25 per hour and is a vocal proponent of expanded union protections, paid sick leave, and workplace equity. Her economic agenda focuses on addressing income inequality, lowering everyday costs for working families, and implementing anti-corruption measures to increase government transparency. On democratic issues, Mejia is a lead advocate for protecting and expanding voting rights and serves as a co-chair of the Defending the 14th Amendment Task Force. Her platform also includes support for environmental protection, universal healthcare, and civil liberties protections for immigrant and working-class communities.
